About One Plus One

One Plus One strengthens couple and family relationships by putting research into practice.

One Plus One was founded in 1971by Jack Dominian. Working in the London borough of Brent – an area of social deprivation – Dr Dominian realised that relationship discord and breakdown was at the heart of the distress he encountered daily with families. He also found clear links between depression (including post natal depression) and relationship problems and, parental conflict and children’s behaviour.

Today, we investigate what makes relationships work - or fall apart - and use the findings to develop training and resources tailored to the needs of those working with families. We also strive to ensure that the Government's family policy is shaped by evidence and innovative practice.
